The analysis also points out the impossibility of providing 5 days in FCPS and other NOVA districts of 6 feet is still the guidance.
Gotta say that I will be very surprised if he does not sign this into law.
I was listening to the Kojo Nnamdi show a week or so ago and he had a NoVa legislator on - someone from Fairfax - Scott Sturovell I think. Tom Sherwood asked him about so many NoVa Dems voting for SB 1303 - Tom was pretty surprised. Sturovell straight up said that legislators were under "tremendous pressure" from parents from NoVa whose kids had not been in school in person.
Northam and the Dems have nothing to lose by signing this bill and a lot to lose by not signing. This should not be a difficult political calculation and opening schools is solidly backed by science and evidence, so it should not be a difficult calculation at all.

Local reporting in the Washington Post is really second-rate.
Keep dreaming. There’s no way he’s going to force fcps back 5 days this school year.
I don’t think so either, but if he signs the bill without the emergency clause it would go into effect 7/1 (I think .... that’s usually the start of the new contract year for teachers and the start of the summer school season) which would open all the schools for next school year + ESY for kids who usually qualify due to IEP’s, and the expanded in person summer school that’s been briefly discussed for families who want it.
FYI the bill has been enrolled and now waits for the Governor’s signature. The bill hadn’t been formally presented to him until yesterday I think, due to some delays in the process.

I want school back 5 days but the likely Rep nominee believes in Qanon so I would really recommend against being a single issue voter, as important as this is to many of us.
DP. I completely agree with you, but I’m also concerned enough people may vote on this single issue to flip the governorship and really screw all of us.
Then I suggest you contact Northam's office and recommend that he sign this bill.
+1. I’m a single I sue voter on this. Not having schools fully open in November means that we again hit the holidays and wait until March. Nope. That’s a red line for me.
The Republican party condoned an attack on the Capitol and our democracy. You cannot be serious that you would vote for a Republican because they give lip service to opening schools against social distancing guidelines. The Republicans are targeting soccer moms with this tactic. Be smarter.
The fact that you appear to believe the crap you have written shows that you are not terribly smart yourself.

Enjoy that education gap you’re increasing.

FCPS teacher here. If we do not start school next fall with 5 days a week, I will be very upset and will likely be one of those voting to flip it red. Unfortunately, I realize that would not really solve the problem... but how else am I supposed to react?
One issue voting rarely helps.
Except in this issue. One person, the governor, has the power to decide if kids are 5 days a week next fall or 4 days a week , two in person, concurrent model crap. School are a huge portion of the state and local budgets. That’s my issue. Open schools FT for my rising senior who will be faulty vaccinated by then, or I vote for someone who will. I am so angry about how this played out in FCPS. I’m so angry it’s going to take the Governor to get schools open.
I’ll deals the SB on 2023. In the meantime, the Governor is the one who can open schools. If Dems choose not to because the teachers unions fund their campaigns, I’ll choose someone who will. I’m so disappointed in Dems. They are supposed to be the party of kids and edication. If they choose not to go full start next year, that’s very eye opening.
No supporting my party when they are wrong. It makes me no better than a *****ers.

In the long term, that is true. But in the short term, it would help my mental state to "punish" the leadership who refused to allow students to go to school 5 days a week this FALL. Hopefully, I will not have to vote based on this single issue.
