Any idea how you got it? My sympathies. It’s the worst.

They were socializing, traveling, eating out, in person school...

You do realize that unlike covid, many viruses are transmitted easily through surfaces? You should probably keep bleaching your produce forever.

Yes, we've had a few colds and a GI illness. The kids are in "pods," but not much illness going around there. I suspect the colds came from the playground or store after outings with DH, who forgets to have them clean their hands. He even bought them candy on a shopping trip and let them eat it in the car with dirty hands.

No covid, though!

That childcare is a cesspool of germs? Yes it is, but doesn’t last forever and I still prefer to get it out of the way before kindergarten.

It doesn’t work that way, unfortunately. Viruses like colds and flus mutate so the whole “daycare prevents them from getting sick in k” is an old wives tale. Certainly true in my family’s case (until this year). My daycare kids were always as sick as frequently as everyone else.

Not for us or other families we know. The first winter in daycare was a constant stream of illnesses, second was better, and since then my kids have had maybe 1 cold/bug a year and we’re now in pre-K-lower elementary. Viruses mutate, but your immune system learns and can keep up better when it’s primed with prior exposures.

DD has been going to daycare the entire time except for a few weeks at the start of the pandemic. She had one instance of hand foot and mouth but has been fine otherwise.

DD usually averages one cold/upper respiratory infection every 1-2 months. This past year? Zero!!!

I'm a teacher and a parent and nobody in my house has been sick since the beginning of last March. I think my son might have had Covid the first week of March last year. I usually have 3-4 colds by this point as well as something else like pink eye, the stomach flu, strep, etc. I started back at school yesterday and we have bets at how long it will take until I get sick.

Nope, and me neither! Nine if my usual sinus infections, gone!

Yes. I am very worried that we kept DC home from preschool this year. When I have had tutoring clients in the past, they had often been sick a lot.,There’s just nothing like being there for the original lesson. (This was back before the math groups nonsense.)
