ECNL and GA clubs in older age brackets will use games as opportunity for non-committed players to get meaningful minutes and game footage, playing starters much less than normal. As it should be.
And overuse injuries, muscle pulls, and hopefully not much more, because older kids can't and shouldn't play so many games in so few days.
Also as predictable is out-state and lesser known clubs hanging in close games, oblivious to the fact they're not playing against a team earnestly trying to beat them with their best players. All of which will lead to the inevitable ECNLsucks/GAsucks/WhateverleagueSucks/we'retoogoodforourbracket banter here from parents denigrating the other guy's club because, you know, showcase results are intended for that.
Take those predictions to the bank.
So you're suggesting the #1 girls showcase in the USA is going to be played by hopefuls and second stringers. Okay then... what IS the tournament/showcase where "all the kids play their hardest". To suggest this is a limp in showcase is either setting yourself up for gratification when the games are close (by chance) or you're DD is in a hellish bracket by which you're not looking forward to. There is literally no bigger platform east of the Mississippi that has more clout. No where else will you get GA/ECNL to play en masse like this. ENCL playoffs don't count as they are built in league play and no GA opponents. Seriously, name this magical place where girls only play hard for that one.
For ECNL and GA girls Jeff Cup is actually of much less value than any of the national ECNL showcases which have bigger scouting draws. Especially this year with no DI schools attending. And in any event, while the kids will all play their hardest to impress, the team aspect is altered due to their being more priority placed on giving everyone playing time than is typical. So you might get the girls best individually, but not the teams best performance. I think that is PP's message.
Good thing you read my post. I said the ECNL playoffs don't count towards this discussion and I asked what other even would garner the team or participants full energy? It was put forth that this weekend will be a showcase of teams who aren't giving it their all. I disagree 100%... first major-major showcase/tourney for vast majority of teams. Scouts or no scouts, girls will want to do their best. Anything thought otherwise means your DD isn't in top bracket and you're poo-pooing for spite sake.
