Are furries cosplay or are they something different? I took my DS to a indoor football game in Pittsburgh once and there was a convention also going on and many people were walking around the city with tails a few were in full costumes. That was a little weird.

It's great. Some knit, build models, play chess. Your spouse creates costumes. It's better than drinking and gambling, isn't it?

If it is your job, it's not "cosplay." It's professional acting.

You do not understand what people are discussing when they use the term "cosplay."

Oh, and you're yet another knee-jerk "If I don't do it, it is weird" person. Do you think everything you don't do, like or choose is weird or wrong? Eh, probably you do. I guess you'll say you are a fan of things but don't pretend you're part of those things. That's fine. Why judge others who express themselves differently from you? And nope, not a cosplayer myself, but like a PP above I enjoy seeing them at events or fairs etc. They're creative. I"m betting they don't spend much time sitting around judging those who don't cosplay.

I go to conventions/rennfairs but do not cosplay but my good friend does. I like seeing the cosplayers, it's half the fun of going. My friend is actually a theater costume stitcher for her day job so she gets to stretch her skills in something for herself.

Maybe it’s Covid boredom but DH started working on a more serious/realistic costume. We do not go to conventions or comic con stuff or anything so I am not sure what the point of this elaborate costume is.
It is not even anything our kids are into (Star Wars) so obviously just for him. Seems weird to me but maybe it is a new thing he just spontaneously wanted to do. He says it is just something we wanted try, apparently for no purpose. Is this weird or what?

Doesn’t matter what others think is weird. I think electric trucks are weird and others don’t.

I think it’s both weird but also fun and cool.

Like, I would always feel weird doing it. But people who are into seem like genuinely nice nerds who are having a good time.

And I mean nerd as a compliment!

Man, let's think together. Is it normal, when Hollywood actors pretend to be fantasy characters? I think, yes. And there is a huge team that is working during the whole filming process, that creates makeup for this actor. Isn't it a cosplay? I believe that it is absolutely normal and I even buy a lot of costumes, qualitative contacts from Coleyes and make the expensive makeup for that aim. That is a kind of modern art.

Another poster who has no actual knowledge of what cosplay is, who does it, or their motivations. Yep, the usual knee-jerk "if I don't do it myself, it's weird, and no, I'm not going to think about it any other way" reaction so common here!

Yes, it's weird. Your husband is weird.

OP's never going to know which it is since she apparently doesn't talk much to her husband, or he doesn't want to share his thoughts about this with her. Considering how she leaps straight to "weird," he might assume she's going to judge him no matter what.

Oh, and OP's not a psychiatrist so she won't know where "just for fun" ends and "checking out of reality" begins anyway.
'
People here are reading so much into costumes and equating them with something being mentally off. That's really their problem, not the DH's.
