Oh man, this thread just reminded me that my mom used to call me “Pumpkin.” She’s Korean, and I’m pretty sure pumpkin flowers, etc. are seen as really ugly. I hope she wasn’t calling me that to be mean.

My DD (11 now) thought a Honey was a person’s child. She called her dolls her Honeys because I called her honey.

My Valentine's Day baby is "Love Bug" and my Sept. birthday baby is "Pumpkin".

Thanks!! I could make a similar list of all the names my mother calls me TO THIS DAY so apparently it’s genetic. The songs are the best - it turns out my husband doesn’t know a single baby song (didn’t even know the words to twinkle twinkle little star) so he just makes them up and they’re fantastic.

My husband doesn’t really either, and made up a song in the hospital a day after DD was born that she still likes. To the tune of Shake, Rattle, and Roll:

You gotta shake rattle and roll, woo!
You gotta shake rattle and roll, woo!
You gotta shake and rattle and roll roll roll, you gotta roll roll roll, you gotta roll roll roll and roll roll roll
You gotta shake rattle and roll, woo!

You are a baby — woo!
You are a baby — woo!

And it goes on from there ... hard to translate over text, but it calmed her down immediately when she was an infant.

Funny how some of these nicknames are so odd but many of us use them lol! DD is 12 and would die if we called her her nicknames in public. A friends Dad calls her Monk for Monkey regularly and the poor kid just turns red.

I feel like it's more tone of voice than the actual words. If I said "Hey doodlehopper?" or "Hey caterpillar?" in that same voice he'd probably respond.

I have one that is quite sensitive to being called anything other than his name. He doesn't mind me calling him Bud or Buddy. I call my other son Nibbles.

Daughter is called Bug, used to be lady bug but it's shortened to bug. My son I called him nugget and now sweetie or my sweet boy.
