Lots of people take their car to a car wash after driving on treated roads to wash the salt off their under carriage. Ski trips are often in areas that get snow and therefore mean you likely drove on treated roads. Your neighbor likely just thought you would want to wash it after that in a car wash.

I'd give the benefit of the doubt here. Be grateful he's not like my crazy neighbor, who would've called the police to report your dirty car and demand you be fined.

I think you are being over sensitive. He probably assumed you would want to wash your car and told you about a place he knows that he likes. I think he was trying to be helpful.

He didn't walk up and tell you to wash your car. I think its normal for people to wash their car after a long drive, he was just making light conversation. People chat, that's all it was.

This! From the title of the thread, i thought there was a complaint about a dirty car. Neighbor was being helpful because most normal people would want to clean their car in that situation. Totally fine to do it yourself, but the appropriate response is, “Great, thanks for the recommendations” and certainly not to be annoyed.

I don't understand why you think he was rude.

It was just small talk. Some men like cars, especially clean ones.

It is rude to tell your neighbor to wash their dirty car.

But your neighbor did not do that, so it's all good.

It seems some people go out of their way to find things to be annoyed about.

Take it as the neighbor was trying to be helpful. Thank him and move on. If you cut out manufactured ways of being offended by others, that only affect you and not them, then you'll find you have a lot less stress in your life. And it will be easier to handle the real stresses in your life.
