I have lived in many cities around the world and DC is by far the most accessible city for those with mobility or sight issues. Is there room for improvement, sure. Should we keep working on things, yes. But really we are improving on the margins now and even broadening the definition of accessibility.

Try using a wheelchair in Europe, Asia or the Middle East.

It looks like the next big thing in DC as far as ADA compliance is going to be superseding with undercounter mobility. In other words, roll up counters and stoves etc. It will be interesting to see if we start mandating these rather than suggesting.

No, he wants regular curb cuts so that you can cross the street.

Just out of curiosity, where in DC are there not curb cuts on corners?

There are plenty of places in DC where curb cuts are not well maintained and basically don't work.

Wow, there are a lot of super rude posters responding to someone in a wheelchair. A new low for DCUM, which is amazing that it is possible. congrats. You people are awful.

Curb cuts, accessible public transportation, etc. . . are the kinds of things he's probably referring to. Did you watch the clip?

I sure did, he never mentioned curb cuts. Do you practice telepathy, is that how you connected that dot? GMAB.

He never mentioned having wheelchair users rolling down the street either.

He's transportation secretary in an administration that is committed to implementing the ADA. When he says that his platform includes providing accessibility for wheelchair users, it's a pretty good guess that he's talking about things like curb cuts, accessible public transportation, repairing sidewalks, etc . . . and not having wheelchair users in the middle of 495 unless they are riding in a vehicle.
