My kids have been back at school all years - two in preschool and two in private.
We have a high risk individual in our household.
It’s a balance of risks and benefits. I will say that over all, teachers at our schools have had more positive tests than students. Now that they are getting vaccinated, I think it lowers the risk for everyone at school.

Parents are quarantining. Some tested positive at least 5 classmates positive not sure if it's from the teacher. Everyone is upset. If I could go back and do it again, I would not do this. The stress and disruption are far worse than having kept her home.
This was a factor then why I was initially okay with virtual in the fall because I just felt like it was going to be really disruptive to constantly have to quarantine every couple of weeks if there was lots of exposures in one classroom

My school district surveyed parents and just over 50% will send their kids back to school.

My DC have been in 5 days since Sept. They were home for 2 weeks after the holidays when there was a +case in their cohort. No other cases in their class. They are in MS and both have the same teacher for 1 subject so both were home. (Teachers move, students cohort)
It was not chaos or pandemonium. Far from it. Announcement came. Kids had off the next day. Online teaching the following day and that afternoon we picked up their crate. Schools handled it just fine.
The crate idea is brilliant. They aren’t allowed to use lockers. We had to supply a crate or box or bag they could keep by their desk. We made an appointment and they crate/box was delivered to the car. Classes went on as normal online for 2
We actually enjoyed the first week (wake up late, uniform top with pj bottoms, lunch together). By the end of week 2 they were definitely ready to return to school- even with social distancing, masks on all day, plexiglass glass partitions on desks, and concurrent students online.
Hope those who want that opportunity get the same very soon.

Elementary schools should open. Maybe middle schools. Fauci said by 9th grade, kids are as contagious as other adults.
