I mean, I have a good friend who is kind of like this. She doesn't do it intentionally. She'll just go on about how happy she is that she doesn't have a kid with any allergies (mine does) and she's not trying to hurt me, she's just sorta self-absorbed.

She has other good qualities -- this is just her blind spot.

Anyway, I would just see if something like this happens again, and if so, just say: "It sounds like you're saying X" in a non-confrontational way, and then see what her response is.

Holy shit OP. If anything you are under-reacting. That is so horribly rude. I have been pretty laid back (leggings, sweat pants, no makeup, etc.), but I still care about my appearance, as in my hair is washed and sometimes put on tinted moisturizer. I would be crushed if someone said this to me.

Bring a bunch of cookies out next time kids play. But, don't' offer her any! If she reaches for it, say, oh dear, I am sure you don't' want to undo all that hard work you did to burn calories this morning!

I've had it up to here with people like that. They have to put others down to feel good about themselves. Not only that, but if you call them on it, they gaslight you.

You can chalk it up to either massive insecurity or just plain meanness. Either way, this woman should be treated as a non-friend acquaintance you endure when you must but never trust.

I get why your feelings would be hurt. I don’t think she meant to hurt you- just happened to say something stupid and insensitive. She isn’t your BFF so you don’t really have to go through “is it worth it to be friends” conversation. I would forget and move on. Keep her as an acquaintance and nothing more.

I have 3 kids and don’t always get ready. I don’t think anyone has ever said anything so rude.

I am also 5’4” and 120 pre kids. I am down to 125. I got a peleton but rarely use it.

Most of my friends look pretty great. I do have nice coats and shoes. So while I don’t put effort into doing my hair and make up, I may look somewhat decent in my expensive coats. I often get complimented on my coats and shoes.

Next time she says something like tell her 'I know-I'm so lucky I was born attractive. I'd hate to put so much time, money, and work into my looks and only look halfway decent' and walk off.

Reason to be hurt, yes. It bothered you. You don't need to justify that. So, what to do ... ? I think if she ever says something like that in front of others, you need a strong come-back. When alone with her, again, a strong come-back would be nice but depends if it's worth it to you.

Btw, I had a neighbor mom-acquaintance like that. She commented multiple times that "I should make time for exercise". She always said it as she drove away to her pilates class .... when I was very busy, sweating, cutting my the grass.
