Tanad Thai. This restaurant— under more than one name — was one of my absolute favorites in the Tenleytown / Friendship Heights area, and one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area. The food was great, the atmosphere was relaxed, and they continued to make pad woon sen for me — even when it was no longer listed on the printed menu. I REALLY miss this restaurant!

I don’t remember Tila’s. I’m guessing that’s the same space that held Indique Heights? Indique Heights had good food, but it seemed overpriced— perhaps because they had to make rent on that space. I’m not sure what’s there now.

For special occasions, for conveniently meeting friends from out of town, for Sunday brunch with jazz, for a relaxed meal in the patio, for celebrations in the private room, for pretty much anything: B. Smith’s. My favorites were the Swamp Thang, and the sweet potato pie with praline topping. Everything was good. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. Loved it.

Love this thread, thank you for starting it. I graduated from college and moved to DC in ‘99, with my then boyfriend, now husband. We spent all our money eating our way through DC. Lots of good memories.

I would add Palena and Pesce to the list. Also Komi, although that might have been a little later than 2000.
