Are the schools in Stamford great though? I know they're great in Greenwich because I attended them myself (Eastern, Greenwich High)

Niche has it as 101 out of 206 in terms of "best public HS"

I would say that was average to poor, not "great". sorry.

What town did you grow up in?

Bridgeport

that is a bit of shit hole place, PP, right?

That's an offensive and discriminatory comment. There are many people who make that city their home.

discriminatory against what exactly? High crime rates and poor prospects?

I’m the actual PP who said the Long Island Sound is disgusting, and I grew up in Westport. Nice to look at, sure, but I wouldn’t take my kids swimming at Sherwood or Compo beach. I’m not sure if Bridgeport has any public beaches.

I know Westport. Paul Newman used to live there in the 80s when I was growing up in Greenwich. They had a darling bookshop we used to visit on the weekends.

Pink!! Remarkable Bookstore! How I miss it!!!

Greenwich is more city-like in that it’s larger and has more things to do. If I was white, I’d be okay with Darien. As a PoC I’d pick Greenwich because it is more diverse.

really? I grew up in Greenwich and it was the whitest of white

I did, too (Westport.) Hardy “disgusting” in my view!

Greenwich has a lot more going on. I would choose it for that reason. Darien is much smaller and more homogeneous.

It’s not the ocean. It’s the Long Island Sound.

+1 Grew up in Fairfield County. Still visit parents there and Fairfield Beach is gross. I don’t remember it being bad when i was a kid. Maybe I didn’t notice it? Or it’s gotten worse.

That’s the problem with many of the opinions on this thread. Fairfield county has changed A LOT in the past 30, even 20 years (chalk it up to The hedge funds and banking industry and an influx of immigrants from central/South America and Eastern Europe).

It has changed gradually, just like everywhere else.

Darien’s a small town and is very homogenous. Be the type of person who is cool with everyone knowing each other’s business.

Greenwich is bigger and there are more “neighborhoods” so your keeping-up-with-the-Joneses stuff might be limited to immediate neighbors, lol.

There are more amenities in Greenwich (people in Darien usually go to Stamford or Norwalk for a night out, although I’m sure people in Greenwich do too because there’s lots of dining and nightlife in Those places).

FWIW, Greenwich had one helluva beach/park, even by LI sound standards. They protect it like Fort Knox too.

Statistically Greenwich is more diverse but in reality, most of that diversity is concentrated in a couple of neighborhoods so you really don’t see it unless you are in those locales.

If youth sports is a factor, Darien has a really competitive, sometimes cutthroat culture.

For if/when commuting is a factor: Darien has two train stations and there’s always parking, which is awesome. Greenwich has four, not as much parking but more express trains which get you into GCT in like 30mins which is really sweet (but good luck getting a seat).

Have you ever been to Fairfield county? It’s overwhelmingly rich.

I grew up in Fairfield County (Westport). It isn't all white and rich - but the towns are very homogeneous. Bridgeport is in Fairfield County and it is definitely not rich or white.
