Now, I don't have a dog, so I'm not actually doing this - but if I did find myself walking a dog, I would totally do this. The poop is in a plastic bag right? And knotted closed? Then it's just trash, and it's a trash can. I also would not mind at all if someone else put dog poop (properly wrapped) into my trash cans.

Opton one:
Hide in the bin and just as they touch the lid, pop up like jack in the box and say very loud while pointing at them - Aha! Gotcha!
Option two:
Don't put the note : please do not put the pop into my trash bin.
Just put a permanent note somewhere near by in big big letters: Smile you are on camera.
or something another.. on amazon probably for five bucks?

But I agree with the OP that those little bags get stuck at the bottom, then start marinating in hot weather.

Yes! There's definitely am overlap of the people who complain about poop in their came and the people who leave their cans out 24/7 and have them block the alleys and sidewalks.

If I'm a ways from home, I will put dog poop in a full trash can, and I will sometimes if I am really far from home put it in an empty can. However; I won't put it in a can that says "please don't put dog poop in our can" or something like that. I recall there is one cute sign, "We love your dog but not his poop! Please don't put it in our can."
