My husband is in quarantine because a co worker traveled out of the country and came to the office to spread COVID. Two people so far have it. I worry about him catching it.

My mom has been staying with us for 2 months. I made a menu for tonight, and she added a few dishes she didn’t like the way I prepared at Thanksgiving so she could do them “her way.” Like I put Orange zest in the cranberries then, and now she is making cranberries for our steak dinner with just plain sugar and water. UGH. Plus I need the kitchen space and she makes such a mess cooking instead of my clean up as I go method. Drives me insane.

She also gave me only cleaning supplies for Christmas. If she thinks the house is so dirty why can’t she lift a finger to clean up all her messes? SIGH.

Well, this is from my family’s Zoom Christmas, so perhaps less contentious:

This will sound weird but my sister drives me up the wall talking about their charitable giving. It’s wonderful they donate money but she goes on and on about it, and then my mom goes on and on about how generous my sister and her family are. And then my mom talks about their charitable giving. Meanwhile, my brothers and I just say “That’s great, it’s really wonderful what you all are doing” but we don’t talk about our giving. Not because we don’t do it but because we think it’s weird and tacky to brag to your family about it during our Christmas zoom call, awaiting accolades. That’s not why we give to charity.

It’s like this every year. This year my dad asked what charity my daughter gave to this year and I said, well, she’s theee and doesn’t really get it but we bought a gift for her school’s angel tree and she helped me pick it out. Then my dad scolded me for not sufficiently encouraging her to be giving. Again, she’s three.

Anyway, I feel guilty complaining about this but it really exhausts me and always leaves me feeling weird and somehow guilty. Oh, and in case you were wondering: yes, we were raised Catholic!
