Seriously? You really believe that your kids counselor- who has many other students to think about- took the time to let a university that has thousands of applicants know that your one specific child might view them as a safety?

Wow.

LOL. I'm more impressed with Elon based on this account and less impressed by the school your kid currently attends. Why should they admit a student with little interest?

So you’re pissed because a school that your kid had zero interest in going to, rejected him? No one owes your kid an acceptance just so they don’t have any rejections. Do you realize how entitled you sound?

But Elon maintained their tours, and fully expected kids to take them.

Not per the Common Data Set. Only "Considered" not "Important" or "Very Important".

Oh no. This is my kid’s “safety.” Already surprised by a rejection from one of their matches (UGA), so there could be tears and panic here too.

Sorry to hear that. UGA is a match for my kid too. What were his stats?

3.4 GPA and 33 ACT from top private

No way is a kid with those stats not getting into Elon. UGA is harder to get into than Elon but very surprised at UGA too....

It’s a finely manicured liberal arts school in the south. Heavy on Greek life and golf. They’re an okay school, but not really great at anything.

They are playing the USNWR ranking game, rejecting a lot of high stat kids who see them as a safety.

Yield is not a factor in USNWR's algorithm, so I'm not sure how this would help game the rankings.

Most people I know did not have Elon as a first choice. But after enrolling became rabid believers. Worth checking out.

To be fair, higher yield has its own benefits. It gives the school more control over class composition, significantly reduces the admissions office workload, and simplifies financial planning.

Bump. Does anyone know what Elon’s acceptance rate was this year? I am hearing that some very highly qualified kids were rejected, and top ones got zip merit aid.
