Anonymous wrote:Original Poster here, I came on this board for something else and was surprised to see this post had survived. Thought I would update for the fun of it - yes you were all right, we decided to stay put in DC and DH goes up and down and does not need to go all the time. For what it's worth, he is not mean, or stupid as some suggested, we just had to work through the process as originally thought it would be better to all be together. That does not make a mean or selfish husband.
However, thanks for all the comments. It all worked out and it just goes to show that sometimes there is actual wisdom on this board.
For anyone else who finds themselves in this position, the commute is actually pretty easy and from my perspective sometimes its nice to have a little more me time, so a win-win.

Agree. Sounds mean but there is nothing inspiring about even the absolute nicest parts of nj
Doesn’t sound mean. Just stupid.

Uprooting kids in high school but won’t commute from suburbs!

Rye and Westchester are where many go if they don't want to go out to Greenwich or Stamford, CT.

Also let's discuss how awesome the food is in Jersey and how I am so sad I can't eat at a restaurant and BYOB like I do back home. I am jealous OP. Have a bagel and go down the shore for me.
Yep. It's really one of my favorite places I've ever lived.

We have abandoned the idea of NYC private schools, and so now we will have a few months to try to figure out the public school system as it does not seem straightforward.

What’s your budget? I love Montclair, Madison and Chatham in Jersey.
