Eh, we're far from rich, but I get what the PP is saying. At this point, anything useful that I want but don't have is outside the budget of a holiday gift. I would never ask my parents for a roomba or a new iPad.
OP - if you can't think of anything useful, go for consumables. Chocolate, coffee, tea, fruit baskets. If the person doesn't like it, they can take it to work to share with coworkers. At least it won't collect dust, take up space, or get thrown out.
