This is how local government is structured in every other state in which I’ve ever lived. It’s at the city or town level, not the county level. You pay your property taxes to the town and that money stays in your town to support the local services - police and fire, schools, etc. It does not support the big, bloated, inefficient bureaucracy that is Fairfax County.
Bloated and inefficient? Do you have a complaint about police or fire?
It's just schools. And the schools are good, so you want to make good better by ... something. Staying open when there's snow on the ground in Chantilly?

FCC has about 15,000 residents; a McLean City could be closer to 45,000 to 60,000 depending on whether Great Falls opted in. Taxes should not be as high as in FCC due to economies of scale.

I don't quite understand what you're implying. Some people consider both McLean and FCC and do decide to move to FCC because they value more local control. But FCC is a good bit smaller than McLean, the housing stock is not as varied, and the smaller schools may not offer as many electives as the FCPS schools.

No, it’s a top school in spite of the ineptitude of the school board and bloated County government. It’s a success because of the demographics, level of education, and wealth of the local population.

Same rate, but the same house on the same price of property isn’t worth the same in Herndon as it is in McLean.
Right. So the taxes paid are only "high" in relation to others because of the value of the home. The rate is the same so it's not a matter of "high property taxes in McLean".
