Rhodes not Rhode’s. For many of us with kids that earned admission to UVA, Rhodes is a relatable goal (not necessarily achievable).

You and your kids have the Nobel in your crosshairs. Good luck to you - it is ambitious and commendable. You are right, for you - UVA will fall short. For us - with our less ambitious goals, it has been fine.

Good luck!

Don’t forget Turing awards and Fields medals.

Maybe UVA needs its own forum.

Actually, uva would be atrocious academically without dozens of TJ grads it gets each year because of the in state tuition.

TJ kids are realizing uva is not worth it even with the in state tuitions. TJ grads attending uva has gone down by more than 50% in the past several years. They are choosing to attend Cornell, Michigan, CMU, Pitt, Berkeley etc. instead.

UVA’s academic standing will suffer as TJ kids choose other universities. Especially the stem departments.

Actually every Big Ten university is basically superior.

+1. And UVA does have a 2005 Nobel in Science, but, as you said, only the very top grad students would get to work with him on research. Same as at any other school. OP just can’t get over the fact that she or offspring didn’t get in. If you google it, you can see the pattern. Then when that fails, she moves on to world rankings which no one pays heed to. Meanwhile UVA is the no 1 public university producer of Rhodes Scholars in the US.

Yay! One! You go UVA. You keep trying.

Who is that? I don't think any UVA graduate has received a Nobel Prize and no academic has received the prize for the work done while they were at UVA. There are some like Ronald Coase who taught at UVA early on in his career, but the work that won the prize was done at Chicago and published when he was there.

I think UVA has gotten better in STEM, but historically, it was a weak area.

Funny.

UVA is not in the last place. They have one.

That “one” did not graduate from uva.
