Was heterosexuality a trend for the last 400 years?

Queer people have always existed. You’re seeing an increase in folks identifying as LGBT because they feel safer (despite you existing). It’s not a trend.

I don't know what the stats are today, but when I was in college 20 years ago it was 1 in 10 are gay/bi. So statistically this would be surprising.

I wouldn't be surprised. As unpopular the belief is, genes encode a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if sexuality was one of them.

It's a trend right now.

I think there’s a genetic link.

Not as in the genes, but hormone exposure in the uterus.

I’m one and 4 and 3 of us are queer and in same-sex relationships.

I've observed that some families tend to have more lgbt kids than others. Assume it's somewhat genetic, for some reason.

These are people in their late 30s who have faced serious hardships because of their sexuality; it is not a fad. It is possible that having a sibling come out could make another sibling feel safe to come out, but that does not mean the sibling isn't actually gay.

Being gay is not a choice, and so makes sense that it would run in families like many other traits do.

I think for the most part you are correct however, I think for some it can be a choice. There is nothing wrong with it being a choice btw.

So is heterosexuality a choice as well?

Sure, why not?

And how old were you when you consciously decided to be straight?

14

I had feelings for girls but, decided to "go straight"
