Does it makes sense that Honda is so highly recommended and Acura is poorly made? Aren’t they basically the same thing?
PP here. I would not say that Honda is highly rated now days. It has fallen as a brand significantly. The Honda brand reliability according to consumer reports is number 5, below Buick and only one point above Hyundai. Acura is more or less a failure as a luxury brand, having to rely on heavy discounts to move a dwindling amount of units. They are riding on the past reputation with a collection of substandard products with lackluster design, features, and technology. This is why you have people gleefully paying more money for a Kia Telluride than an MDX. HONDA refuse to invest anything meaningful IN Acura, which has been in steady decline since the early 2000s, and thus other brands have leapfrogged them. Acura is now rated about as reliable as Alfa Romeo. Think about that. Again I am a lifelong Honda fan and have always owned a Honda of some sort. But the pitiful performance of the brand is pretty clear these days. Again, I am a fan, but the facts are the facts. I am not making this up. The MDX is rated by Consumer Reports as one of the least reliable vehicles you can buy, and that is quite an accomplishment.
