I just love the name.

Just because the musical is 35 years old doesn't mean people don't remember it. As you can see from all the comments. And yeah, its a little weird to use a French name when you aren't French. I feel the same way about Irish names when someone isn't Irish.

Yes, cultural appropriation.

Good one!

Sometimes when my beagle steals bread, I post a pic of him with a 24601 prisoner sign. I don't know how many people get it, but it amuses me to no end.

If you are talking about a kitten, go for it.

For a human baby, no, because it isn't a proper name (nn) and sounds like the pet of a steely maiden aunt with literary pretensions.

Cosette is derived from cosseted, which means spoiled and indulged. I think it had negative connotations plus Les Miz baggage.

This is correct. Drive into the heartland, get out of your bubble and start hanging out with more uneducated and uncultured people, they will have no idea where this name came from.

Ok, but in fairness this is a DC site. If OP lives elsewhere with "uneducated" people, then perhaps she can go for it.

I still think it is a clunky name. It's difficult to pronounce.

Sorry about derailing the thread, but do that many people associate “Miranda” with Sex in the City anymore? Now I associate it with Lin Manuel Miranda, and other people’s making that association wouldn’t bother me.

A friend named her DC Cosette. It really grew on me. I like it!

I’m rewatching The Sopranos. Cosette is the name of Adriana’s little dog that Christopher sits on and suffocates while high on heroin.
