I had a cousin retire from the army after 20 years (infantry, nothing related to medicine) and he loved medical school and his residency. Everyone is different.

I am an MD who fought long and hard to get myself out of the clinics for my family and my sanity. It is so brutal out there right now. Many of us go to medschool thinking we wanted to save lives. It is an incredibly long, hierarchical process with rites of initiation that can be compared to hazing. There is a reason physician suicides are so high. What is it like to practice where the science is fallible and is made negligible by insurance companies dictating what a patient has access to, and be held by society to a higher moral compass and also more litigation? You get reimbursed $300 for a patient who can sue you for $20 M for the same encounter? If you leave your job as an MD, you have to pay for your malpractice insurance, which can easily be 60K.

Unless you are reaking of money, and just looking for something to preoccupy your time and passions, I would take a real hard PASS
