You guys that hate MoCo can move to NoVA if you think it's so much better over there.

Literally, no one cares if you leave. I would love to see fewer boomers TBH.

MoCo has had stagnant job and business growth for almost 20 years now. The county continues to be hostile to business. MoCo has been getting its ass kicked by NoVa for bringing in jobs and businesses. The list is too long to write at this point of allllllllllllllllllll the business MoCo has lost to NoVa over the last 20 years. The only solution for MoCo is to keep doubling down on higher and higher taxes because the government that moronic voters in the county elect have no other solutions for diversifying the tax base.

The county release the demographics outlook for about the next 20 years a little while ago. The projections are dire. The number of workers who will be in their prime earning years is set to continually decrease over the next 10-20 years while the number of the retirees is going to explode. That means MoCo's tax base will continue to erode, and to stop the hemorrhaging MoCo's leaders, of course, will keep trying to raise taxes. Remember, this is against the backdrop of MoCo being warned already that its credit rating was at risk because the county was robbing Peter to pay Paul since it has so much debt and obligations.

With the expected demographics shift for the county that not even immigrants can make up for to attenuate the tidal wave of baby boomers completely withdrawing from the labor market in retirement, MoCo is going to enter a death spiral where it will constantly raise taxes to make up for budget shortfalls, tax hikes will cause people to flee, which will result in more taxes, and so the cycle goes.

It is because MoCo's far left leaning govt has no checks and balance and diverse opinions in thought. The answer is always higher taxes and double down on what are perceived to be socially 'progressive' plans for the county that end up chasing businesses and high paying, law abiding citizens away.

I have lived in MoCo for 20 years and this is SPOT ON.

If MoCo was Cuba, the police would just shoot people not wearing masks.

Which ironically, is EXACTLY what many DCUMs would like.

In the US, police get to decide who they shoot. Not the law, and not DCUMers either. THEY decide who they get to execute.

OK then let me calm down and try again. This is why MoCo is failing:

- Council supports crony capitalism for developer donors
- Executive doesn’t appear to support private sector at all
- Council supports meaningless social justice initiatives
- Executive has bombastic history of leftist rhetoric and associations
- Executive favors insider supporters over regular constituents
- Like other leftist regimes, when you tax and “social justice” your tax base to oblivion, they leave.

Got it?

Sounds like business as usual all over the USA. I guess the part you really object to is the "left leaning" part. Supporting crony capitalism for developer donors is as far from socialism as it gets. If you don't like left-leaning neighbors, then go somewhere else. We have a right to vote for who we want, just like you do.

Did you read the horrible summary the county wrote on the ballot for Question D? It's not going to pass. It should, but it won't.

Montgomery County could have competitive elections if moderate Democrats or “Hogan Democrats” were local Republicans. Or if there were a Democratic Party and a Socialist Party.

Ben Jealous only beat Hogan in Montgomery 55-45. By comparison, Elrich won 65% of the vote, and Hillary won 75%. People just don’t like Republicans. Ben Jealous was just so terrible that Hogan brought the election relatively close, but not enough to beat the stink of the Republican Party. But the Elrich/Jealous/Jawando/TP-SS far left should not be in the same party as a Blair or Friedson or Franchot.

Montgomery County is quickly becoming its own case study in failure of leftist governance. People with any talent or high earning potential are fleeing in droves. Thankfully, instead of killing them like a true communist government would, the government just taxes their real estate transfer to death.
Yes, they tax you even if you try to leave the People’s Republic of Montgomery County.

The council wants to abolish the police, advocate for cultural issues nobody really cares about, and support crony capitalism (not free markets) with corporate welfare for real estate developers. He only council member I like is Andrew Friedson, who is reasonable and fiscally sane.

The executive is worse. He lets organized labor, especially public sector unions, run everything, he won’t open schools, he openly crushes businesses as part of his vision to dismantle capitalism.
Marc Elrich for a FACT has admired Cuba and the Castro regime all his life. He was a student radical, a member of SDS, he is a Marxist, he has endorsed Communism and other Communist regimes in Latin America. I don’t think people understand how dangerous he is. He doesn’t want to see anything built by a corporation, and what you’ll get is beat up looking buildings and roads like you see in Cuba. You can tell that Elrich LOVES this pandemic because it enables the government to seize more power.

What’s more, is like any Communist Party, Elrich has an inside circle who get everything their way, they get all the access, all the favors, and they are all he listens to.

I say all this and I am a Democrat. Not just because of the one party state. I have voted Democrat all my life and I do not support any Republicans today. I hate Trump, and what I especially hate about Trump is his authoritarianism and affinity for Communist regimes and dictators. How does an anti-Communist Democrat survive in Montgomery County?

It's funny how the reputation of the GOP is so low that right-wing trolls are forced to claim to be Democrats.

"Crony capitalism" and socialism are incompatible. There is NO capitalism crony or otherwise, allowed in a socialist country. Furhermore, socialist countries don't need to "tax their tax base into oblivion" since they already own the means of production and are automatically keeping the proceeds from economic activity.
Where did you go to school, Trump University?
Sad.

Not OP. But social justice, which OP posts about here, is not socialism.
