You couldn't like ... slap an ice pack on your arm and get through another hour? It's not like your ass was pouring lava or anything.

OP, your mistake was going after he blindsided you with being the DD and giving his parents a ride. At that point you should have said: “This is turning into a bigger production than I signed up for. I’m going to stay home and relax today. You go and have fun”

You knowingly put yourself in position where you have no control (you’ve committed to driving other people in their car) Your DH also clearly wanted to railroad you into doing everything exactly his way. The only way to win that game is by not playing. If he pulls this crap again, you stay home. Done.

'Unwell' includes an arm that hurts.

+1 As a PP said, your DH prioritized his mother. You should be pissed.

You know what OP, you should have given the dog to your DH or MIL, why did you take care of it when your arm hurt.

Your DH sounds like a brat. If you are young and don't have children I would seriously consider if this is the type of marriage you want to stay in. He didn't care that you hurt your arm he only cared about his nice day being ruined and that his mother had cooked.

BTW very telling that his mother played it as "your wife doesn't want to stay". I would stop saying anything about his mother but she is playing you, drop the rope with her.

Are you married?

OP, do you often have reasons to not participate when it comes to your ILs? Do you often put him into a position where he has to choose? Do you sulk the entire time you’re around them and watch the clock?

I agree with PP who said you give the game away. Why didn’t you offer to be DD if you don’t like wine anyway? If the dog was tugging on your arm, why didn’t you use the other arm? What’s the big deal about staying for dinner? Your husband wanted to - aren’t his needs also something to consider? He was having a nice day with family, and dinner together is a natural extension of that.

Uh, she was out and about all day and the pain often gets worse as the day wears on. OP had probably reached her limit and might not have had any Advil on her to take more. Everyone feels better at home, especially when they’re already tired from being out and socializing the entire day. Team OP l—except grow a spine and leave on your own next time. Let your husband fend for himself.

This is ridiculous. Surely MIL has Advil. Grow a spine and ask for some. But seriously, I can’t imagine being such a wimp. I once went to a dinner party an hour after I broke two ribs in a farm accident, because I’m not a flake.

No you're a fake martyr.

lol I bet PP was gloating throughout the whole dinner about how “she’s fine” the whole time. This is such attention seeking behavior.

So do you often beg off nice social engagements with weak excuses?

You give away the game by talking about how much you don't like your MIL. This is about not wanting to eat with them, not about the hurting arm. Frankly, you sound whiny.
