I think these are old stereotypes (at least for doctors). I'm a physician ($450k income) and have a 2010 Toyota, over 1/2 the cars in the attending physician parking spots are similar. Granted there are tesla, BMW, audi, Mercedes but a lot of modest cars. The CMO drives a prius and the CEO drives a Honda.

I’m not talking about stereotypes. I’m taking about people I know and places I’ve personally observed. The driveways in neighborhoods and office car parks don’t lie.

At WF seem to be a parking lot full of luxury cars. So many Range Rovers. All leased I guess.

+1 I don’t believe this thread. Net worth about $4M. 5 cars. 3 Mercedes, Lexus, Honda Pilot. Looking down the street I see much the same. Some families have Suburbans, Tesla, more Lexus, Porsche etc. But we are poor at only $4M. Next neighborhood over more classic cars kept in the garage and Mercedes for everyday use.

Two ultra high net worth families that I knew growing up had no obvious displays. One dad drove an old Land Cruiser. The other drove a Jeep. Kids wore t-shirts, jeans, and Chucks and the like. Nice, but mostly “normal” houses. I only learned about their wealth over time during conversations about travel or holidays or college plans. For example, I would hear about the second, third or fourth house somewhere else in the US or the world. And it’s not like they’re dropping these facts to brag. I listend and learned by putting the pieces together. The sky is blue, the grass is green and the other weekend my parents stayed at their home in ____ while we went to our grandparents houses. Other tidbits became apparent over time - e.g., parents didn’t work for a salary, and the families had owned several companies for several generations. But all outward signs were “typical” — nothing extraordinary.

We have enough to be comfortable for life and we have a Subaru and a Chrysler. Have many friends in the same boat. Not trying to prove anything to anyone. Being rich doesn’t necessarily mean you want to hang out with people who want people to know they’re rich. Pretty gauche actually.
