I mean, he's a real estate developer? A nice one? Has kids in DCPS? But I don't think he has any other educational knowledge or experience beyond, like, having attended schools himself. He seems like the kind of parent I'd be happy to elect to my school's LSAT (runs a successful small business, good with numbers, trustworthy), but not the person I'd elect to the board that oversees the whole thing.

I spent time on all their websites yesterday and wound up voting for Dr. Perry. I like that he’s a professor and has worked in a number of different states/ seen many different systems. More importantly, he seems very intelligent and fact-based rather than ideological - the latter quality seems rare in this field

This seems like a thoughtful response from Valentine. Have any of the other candidates responded to the Mayor's proposal?

So... not Valentine then. He specifically shouts out the WTU! And wants still more delays! No no no.

It's a wakadoo proposal that doesn't have a way to get kids f2f teachers when things are better in the spring, which means we are back to shuffling classrooms. BUT the answer isn't more delay.

I don't think rejecting this wakadoo plan is the same as calling for more delays, necessarily. It's more like saying "this plan is terrible, let's shelve it and work on creating something that's not terrible."

It’s a wakadoo proposal to suggest ensuring your kids aren’t breathing in covid and bringing it back home to you?

Because aides are magically immune to COVID when teachers are not? Give me a break. This is about teachers not wanting to work — for a combo of legitimate and illegitimate reasons — and holding the Mayor hostage. I wish she’d force teachers to take CARES leave (if not entitled to different leave) if they aren’t willing to go into a classroom, but it is what it is.

I worked with Valentine in my school when he was at Bridges, Inc. He was delightful and knowledgeable.
