OP, you do realize your kids will likely not see the inside of a classroom this academic year. Prepare for more distance learning. And then when the classroom instruction begins, know that they will be teaching to the lowest common denominator based on the fact that many kids just did not do any learning since fall/winter of 2019.

Friday’s notification will begin formal conversations and bargaining, and will focus on the possibility of bringing small groups of the school district’s highest-needs students back, according to union President Chris Lloyd. The school district is not yet considering bringing all students back into buildings for a hybrid of in-person and remote classes, Lloyd said.

In an interview on Friday night, Lloyd emphasized that the notice does not mean that students will definitively return to schools in roughly six weeks. Rather, he said, it signals the district wants to work collaboratively with the unions to plan for when it is safe.

I am a long-standing family at another school to which public school families have fled. Fine. Just go away. Leave us to our own families who actually are invested in the community long-term and who do not view our school as just a temporary “means to an end.”. Please. Go back.

As an independent school teacher, I hope you do go back to public. The public school parents who fled public in a panic are the most demanding parents in our community, and they’re disrespectful to staff members. The long-standing families who witness such behavior are embarrassed for them. Also, even privates that haven’t announced yet will be back by early November, likely at greater capacity than MCPS. But I’m not going to talk you into sticking around. And you can sue, but you’ll lose. I’ve seen it happen. Hopefully you have tuition insurance or a school head who just doesn’t want to deal with you.
