Uh huh. Like it or not, AAP is for high IQ kids, which are a real thing, and the program does bring more high IQ families to the county than elsewhere. It's good for the students (when and where properly implemented), it's good for the county.

The report that came out earlier this year had several suggestions for improving the admissions process, probably none of which will happen now during the pandemic but may happen in the coming years.

Can't have competition here. Someone would feel bad. Seriously though, not that I'd want grades posted, but our title 1 middle school will not even announce that the honor roll exists in the parent information email. Parents get a private email if their child is on it.

Since when was academics a competition? I view my children's education as fostering a lifelong love of learning, teaching them about the world, and most importantly helping them to rightly order the things they love so they can rightly order their lives. It just so happens that at least one of them is in AAP because the curriculum is the best fit.

It's always been a competition. You know there used to be things like class ranks and kids in the top cohort would compete over it.

In other countries where academics are prioritized, grades are publicly posted and things are far more competitive than here.

Unfortunately, not every teacher or center uses the AAP curriculum materials. I had one kid in gen ed with advanced math and another at the center. I couldn't see any differences at all between what they were doing, other than that the gen ed advanced math was moving faster and using more of the AAP materials than the center class.
