Correct that’s why we didn’t even bother. We are desperately trying to keep at least one of our children’s feet in the real world.

If you think politics dominates everything at Maret, you must not have visited GDS. GDS takes it to a whole other level. Maret more similar to Sidwell in this regard.

Can you elaborate more on this? New to the private school search and still learning reputations. TIA

It’s funny that this person thinks politics doesn’t dominate everything at Maret.

I really love GDS. The bigger grade size provides more options for friendships, less exclusion, and fewer cliques.

What nonsense. Talk about creating a sense of entitlement.

No need for honorifics like Mrs. Smith or Mr. Shaw. Only in Spanish, French and chinese class do those come up.

It’s ok it’s ok, the lower school kids also call their own parents by their first names. It’s a glorious molding of minds.

And I see that you still haven't changed your mind about the first names being "too woke," even though you now know the reasons for it.

The origins of the first-name custom is often explained during school tours. And it's been explained frequently on DCUM.

We looked at GDS and ended up sending our kids elsewhere, but I really wonder if parents who criticize the "first names" policy at GDS are actually racist. Everyone who has looked into the school seriously knows that the reason for the first names policy was to defy the Jim Crow laws and culture that were still in place. White children and adults had to be addressed as "Miss/Mrs./Mr." by Black people regardless of age; Black children and adults were not given that respect. Even Black adults had to call young white children "Miss X" or "Mr. X" and white children were allowed to call a Black man "boy." If you understand why those "honorifics" were eliminated, I don't understand why you would think that custom to be too "woke." Instead, I kinda wonder if maybe you're actually racist or think that's OK. Also, FWIW, my kids' Jewish preschool also didn't use "Mr." or "Mrs." or "Ms." so you had a bunch of 2 year olds calling adults by their first names, too.

Isn’t gds play-based in lower school?
Maybe look at the class schedule for a few grades and ask about reading, math, spelling method?
