I grew up in NYC and live here now, 30 years old. I knew one kid with this name in my grade when I was in middle or HS. He may have been jewish but I don’t know. I do not like the name much

Asaf or Aesoph is better.

I like it. I think there was a soap opera character in the 80s by that name, and that's what it calls to mind for me, but that association won't affect your child's generation.

I had a couple of Asa’s back on my family tree on the Appalachian side. They had brothers with names like Happy and Everett. I’m glad to see it’s gone mainstream.

Anonymous wrote:I love this name. Noah was my first choice but DH adamantly refuses. All the other Biblical -ah names are too evangelical these days for me. DS is Leo.

Concerns are pronunciation and that it is feminine. I know 2 boys given this name; 1 is a Jewish teenager, 1 a biracial 5 year old.

DCUM hive thoughts?

Leo is so cute! Not crazy about Asa. How about David, Benjamin?

Asa is, from what I know, a girls name. In central Asia.

Big love to King Asa, but all the Asas I grew up with were called “Ass-a” by mean kids or “Asia” by substitute teachers. I would find something else. What about Ari or Levi?

I very strongly dislike this name. While I recognize it as a male name, there is nothing masculine about it, it's not cute, and the mean nickname potential is really high. And with a brother named Leo? Asa will wonder why you hate him.

So, your son is going to live here in the U.S? Not in Scandinavia or Isreal? And you are a native English speaker? And you did not think about a handy nick name kids will use?
