I respectfully disagree that being a parent to a teenager should be all hands and attention on deck 24/7. These are not 2 year olds who might tip over a bookcase or touch a stove. They need to take ownership of their home and where things are located and figure some ish out for themselves if they are calling "MOM!!!!!" every 20 minutes

I got a lot of laughs out of this thread. I only have one DS, 5. Got some good tips- love the reverse allowance. But what's the husband equivalent for that?

My HS-age kid only wants 3 square meals. Or so he says. He actually wants 3 gourmet meals. His pet phrase is "Surprise me". He wants food that has been labored over and that is not a repeat of something he ate a week ago. Also, presentation is important. Oh, and he does not do fast food. No, no. That is ' too unhealthy and has fake meat and GMO' this and that. If it is "take out" he wants from a "proper" restaurant and he wants variety and a "feast" of dishes - from appetizers to dessert. He also gives his expert opinion on the food. Maybe he will grow up to be Tom Siestema or something. But in the meanwhile, I wonder if he is being paid by my MIL, who has similar exacting culinary standards especially when she used to visit us, to keep me on my toes.

I endure all of this because in all other ways he is fantastic and super helpful. I am teaching him to cook too because I don't want my DIL to get annoyed with his demands.

I think I hear, "Mom!" more from my DH than my kids. All day long.

I'm ready for this vaccine to be administered in my eyeballs to escape this.
