I’m a very pro-choice person but when I realized I was pregnant with our oops my choice was that my oops was mine to raise.

Congrats, OP! You seem happy about this wonderful surprise. Otherwise, Roe v. Wade is there for a reason: no one should be forced to have kids they did not plan on and want to.

you're fine as long as you don't skip a day or take at a different time.

I am a PP that had a surprise pregnancy on the mini-pill. Not to scare you, but I took it way too long because I was still nursing and it was “the pill to take when you’re nursing“. I never even got a postpartum period. I had pregnancy symptoms but obviously didn’t think I was pregnant. My OB told me after the first ultrasound (a perfect and healthy toddler now!), that the efficacy of nursing combined with the mini-pill is zero as soon as the baby eats anything (table food, formula, etc.). WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW BEFORE, but oh well. All that to say, after my last I went on the regular pill asap and it didn’t even affect my milk supply.

That’s not true! The whole point of a mini pill is that you aren’t relying on bf/ebf as birth control.

My OB said that EBF and the mini-pill combined have the same efficacy of the regular pill, but that once you are no longer exclusively nursing the contraceptive protection of BF is removed and the mini-pill should be exchanged for an IUD or the pill. I am only repeating my OB‘s explanation, though, so ask your doctor.

Pp here - I take it at “bedtime”. So anywhere between 9-11pm.

Nope. Get a baby name ready. That’s fine for the regular pill but the mini pill requires no precision. You aren’t getting any benefit from it so when you ovulate you will have a baby 39 weeks later.

Requires MORE precision

Our 4th was an oops baby 8 years after #3 and our oldest was 15. I was 41 and thought we were moving into the no childcare years. Not! When I told my husband I was pregnant it took him at least ten seconds to react and then he smiled and said “I guess the kids will figure out we still have sex!”. That was five years ago and my little boy is the best thing that ever happened to us. My 20 year old takes him everywhere with her as they are great pals. And I‘ve always had great babysitters.

My neighbor was pregnant 3 years ago with her 6th at age 46. Number 5 born 11 years prior.

This kid is huge and athletic and smart and well-behaved. A great addition to the family. Older kids adore him.

My post-vasectomy surprise just started college. He's an absolute joy and our family wouldn't have been complete without him

Really? Tell that to my cousin. 49 y/o, H with vasectomy for a while, and two kids in high school.

Tell that to my mother. Got pregnant 4 years after a tubaligation.

The 18 month age gap was amazing for us, and at 3.5 and 5 it still is great. The 18 month old and baby both napped from 12-3 every day (I am not one for scheduling newborns but he was put into that naptime very early on for my sanity). It was really fine and we love the age difference. I never felt like it was terrible.

My husband was an oops baby (so were his oldest brother and a subsequent miscarriage, and he suspects his middle brother was too), but knowing this doesn’t bother him at all, unlike some PPs. I think besides wondering how his parents didn’t know how the sex thing worked by then, he finds it amusing. We have a surprise baby as well but I don’t think I’ll ever tell him that.

Yep found out when I was 6mos pp. We had JUST found our rhythm with 2 kids and if I'm being honest, the "oops" baby is not the easiest. Now my youngest are almost 2 and 3 and it's so damn hard, especially with having them home with us 24/7. I have to remind myself things get easier.
