What about Oberlin? They have excellent sciences and good merit.

OP here. Gettysburg is on our radar (mostly because they’ve been bombarding us with e-mails!). We’ve heard it can be kind of snobby/fratty and don’t know if DD would get any merit aid.

My dd liked all of the schools you listed and that was the only in state school she didn’t hate. She visited and immediately dismissed VT, JMU, UVA and WM.

OP here. One of our neighbors (a year ahead of DD) is starting CNU this fall pre-med.

I want DD to visit, but have heard the school is not academically strong and the pretty campus strikes us as a kind of Potemkin village, which, strangely, makes me want to see it all the more.

OP here. Colgate is a consideration but DD is afraid it may have too much of a frat bro/lax bro culture. But if that’s just a myth, then yes, Colgate would be on the list.

Not a myth!

Colgate is preppier and more of a party school than Hamilton
Hamilton is crunchier and more social justice warriory than Colgate

Many of these schools will cost LESS for OP than, say, UVa or W&M.

Lol. Not!

Um yes they would. Juniata would for sure, don’t know much about the others

Many of the schools mentioned in this thread, particularly the CTCL's, are committed to accessibility. Often the actual price is significantly lower than the sticker price.

OP here. Many of the CTCL schools, with good merit aid, come in lower than UVA and W&M, and are comparable, price wise, to VA Tech.

OP here again. Looking at Colgate's incoming class profile, it appears almost half the class is from private schools.

Pretty sure it's off the list now.

We also preferred the Hamilton culture.

+1 That was our experience too. And at the CTCL schools with good STEM programs there is a contingent of high scoring/GPA students on substantial merit aid who get very intensive research experiences with professors, great internship placements, and excellent med school/PhD placements.
