Yeah.... what? A bunch never opened, but I can think of 8-10 that have opened without incident.
Ours was shutdown after a little over a week because of positives.

I don’t think area public schools are reopening this year, but not for the reasons you state. I think it’s that the pro/DL teachers got to call the shots this year, and their reasoning won’t change as we enter fall and winter. And by 4th q it will be too late. In for a penny, in for a pound. Hopefully 2021-2022, but I have my doubts about that too. 😔

So let's get kids back in schools then, with precautions. Only 1 person age 0-19 has died in MD, and that was in Baltimore, and she had pre-existing conditions.
Meanwhile, child abuse reports are down 40-50% nationwide (schools are often reporters of it); and there have been 5 student suicides in MoCo since the school shutdown this spring.

I would return to my office now if allowed. We are in a large building with so so air quality but even when my floor is filled I can easily maintain 6 ft distance.

Alternately, many parents are desperate for their kids to be in school because "distance learning" was a disaster last spring and will continue to be a disaster this coming school year.

I’m not defending DL. It was appallingly deficient.
But doesn’t safety trump education at the moment?
Candidly, I think schools should up their DL game but essentially plan for this year to not count. I suggest no grades, and just repeat the grade level next year—at least for math and foreign language which cannot be self taught. Nobody is learning calculus via DL, and Spanish instruction was a joke.

People have been taking public transportation in the DC area all along. How did you think all of the low-wage essential workers were getting to/from work? The RideOn bus and the MARC train have had a mask requirement since mid-April; Metro since mid-May.
