I have three kids and have been through this twice. Its a nightmare. I too was told "no cure-wait it out" well that ended up with a kid going from like 10 spots to 500- and it took a year for them all to go away. The next time it showed up, I used this stuff - ZymaDerm for Molluscum Contagiosum and covered every single one after their shower with a q tip and put a tiny band aid on it. And it didn't spread so we were done in like 3 weeks.

Honestly, I popped the head off and then neosporin and bandaid. Healed fine and didn’t spread.

Time.
We used iodine and tea tree oil, which may have helped a tiny bit, but was stinky and messy. After doing it for several weeks we gave up and let them be. It went away on its own after 6-7 months. I mostly forgot they were there except for the occasional complaint that they were itchy.

My daughter oddly enough only had one bump for a several months time that got bigger than usual. Not knowing what it was they removed it to send for a biopsy.

Years later in my daycare I had one family who had two kids with it. When they started they understood their daughter was clear of it for over a month, after having it for a year. She flared back up a few months later but it was mild and cleared up within 6 weeks. The younger sibling caught it and it was pretty much everywhere but on his face. Ten months later it was gone for good. Treatment was considered but not used.

Kept it covered with shorts/pants. Hydrogen peroxide on any the seed was coming to the top, antibiotic ointment and bandaid until it healed over. Our son had it at age 9 for 9-10 months on the inside if his thighs. Pretty sure he got it at disney as that the only time he had been in shorts.

I don’t want to take my kid to a derm who will just tell me to leave it alone. And I’m definitely not interested in waiting months or years for it to resolve on its own.

Ugh.

Our kids were treated at Anne Arundel Dermatology's Bethesda office, but the resulting blistering was extremely painful and I wouldn't do it again.

Our pediatrician warned us about this. We just gave it time and they went away. Never spread to any other family members.

Try DermAssociates in Rockville. Dr. Abrams is wonderful.

Our ped said to leave alone but we decided to get an opinion from a pediatric dermatologist. The derm recommended doing something given how active in sports and camps DS was and froze them off on the first visit. They have not come back. It’s definitely worth the consultation with the dermatologist- we otherwise would have been living with them for the next 6-12 months according to our pediatrician’s office.

I would see a pediatric dermatologist.
DS spread It all over his body. He had some ointment prescribed and then they froze some off at the end.

We used Boudreaux’s Butt Paste and it worked well. I thought I read it on here on a thread where multiple posters recommended it, so I’m surprised I haven’t seen it posted yet.

We also used OTC wart remover on the molluscum bumps and they went away in about 2-3 weeks.

What all these agents do (beetle juice, wart remover, etc) is irritate the area and trigger the body to mount an immune response. Once that happens the bumps shrink omits magically and don’t return. Something has to kick the immune system into gear.

try tea tree oil. I dont remember who told me about it, but when my son had molluscum it definitely helped. and then I recall recommending to another friend and it helped her child's as well.

Dry cracked skin makes them worse/more likely to spread. So I made sure son’s skin was better moisturized. It really helped. And I put apple cider vinegar on a Q-tip on one molloscum, covered with a bandaid, and his body seemed to have a generalized reaction — in the next couple if weeks all of them were gone. I read this advice on DCUM. Doctor had said to leave them and they would go away in a few years.

Zymaderm-you can buy it off amazon. We also covered them in bandaids so they didn’t spread
