I do want to make one point. I'm not trying to poo poo playing or Jeff Cup in general. Lots of people are anxious to get their kids back out training and playing and I get that, I just think the more patient we are the sooner we can get back to playing for real. A part of that patience is not doing out of town tournaments.
The quality of Jeff Cup is going to be severely impacted for the risk of setting teams or clubs back due to a kid, parent or coach getting sick. People can minimize the risk all they want but a fraction of the teams originally signed up for March will attend in August. Jeff Cup would be wise to rent fields in NoVA as well as Richmond to try and increase regional interest as well as minimize travel. While this would be difficult for the showcase element it definitely should be considered for the younger age groups.

Did anyone else play sports here? Trust me when I say if you are PP worried about your DC injuring themselves after a break, then they aren’t going to have a shot at scholarship anyway. That just tells me you DC hasn’t been putting in the work during down time. My DD is more ready than she was before the break!!!
You do know a) the death numbers are always lower on the weekends due to reporting problems and b) it was a holiday on Saturday. In fact there is a caveat in the reporting website pointing out that point:
"The low new case numbers statewide can likely be attributed to a lag in reporting from Sunday, because case numbers were higher than average the last three days. "

So the rural areas of Virginia and North Carolina are seeing spikes. I just do not see how you do this. The professional teams are isolating for 14 days and still have cases. Maybe you can ask the teams to self quarantine for 14 days. You know how that goes.
A lot of the refs are older and are not doing it for the money. Many will just not work the games. You really can not force them to do the games.

Scholarships are not going to be the same, if they even exist going forward, the financial effect on colleges is huge. P5 conferences will hold on as long as they can but most will gravitate towards student-athlete as soccer is a non-revenue considered sport in NCAA. Anyone thinking scholarship better start saving $.
Most programs will be fine and any hits to scholarships will be more short term, think 2 years, before things pretty much bounce back to normal. But that really has little to do with Jeff Cup.
For many kids, Jeff Cup will be the first soccer games they have played since January at best but most likely November. Yes, kids played futsal over the winter but having gone 8-10 months without playing a real soccer game and it being a showcase?

I hope it does go well, honestly. I just think it will be a very different and watered down experience compared to years past.
I wouldn't say I'm being negative as much as practical. It will end up a very regional tournament that I'll have to spend hotel and restaurant time and money on. Most of the teams will likely be NoVA teams that will have required unnecessary exposure associated with hotels and restaurants.
