In China in the spring all of the children wore masks. No masks. No school.

If child cannot manage a mask parent should keep child home and hire a tutor to home school the special needs child. We are in a pandemic.

Do you think the pictures of 'all' the children in China wearing masks, included many SN kids? What happened to them?

My SN dd has actually taken well to wearing her mask that was made in her favorite color, but her little friend cannot tolerate one even for a minute. Do you think THAT child is in the pictures from China? Think about it.

This has nothing to do with military.

You're a jerk. My kids are absolutely going to wear masks and they can. But many people with autism and other disabilities truly can't due to sensory issues. My BIL, who is an adult with ASD, is struggling with this tremendously. He's going to wear a face shield when he returns to work, but the reason he can tolerate it with practice is in part because he's a grown man. Are you saying all kids with genuine disabilities that would prevent them from wearing a mask at school should stay home? Aren't those some of the kids who need in person services most?

That’s exactly my thought. My kid is one of those kids. He needs to be in school but may have trouble with the mask. I’m going to possibly get him a shield.

A shield does not do the same thing. Documented asd would be a medical condition for a exemption but parent diagnosed sensory is not. Plenty of time to find a comfortable one.

re: the bold: You're right, not all kids can wear masks. So maybe they will be required to learn to wear shields, which is a good alternative that isn't clinging to the face. Maybe the few who cannot tolerate even a shield could be tested like clockwork every two weeks, or there are separate mask-free/shield-free classrooms only for kids who have documented medical conditions that doctors (not just parents) say prohibit anything over the face at all.

But for parents who are lying to get their kids out of masks JUST because the parents don't like masks, or have self-diagnosed their kids as "unable" to wear masks:

Yes, those parents should be told: If your child's so-called condition is so bad he can't mask, then it's bad enough to keep him home.

That would get some of the lying parents to straighten up and send their kids to schools in masks.

Not the same as kids who have actual, doctor-confirmed issues.

There are already adults out there presenting faked up cards from the "FTBA" -- "Freedom to Breathe Administration" -- a Facebook group that is urging people to use these official-looking cards that say the bearer cannot be made to wear a mask due to medical reasons and anyone doubting them is violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is VILE. So are parents who will lie about medical conditions so their kids don't have to wear masks.

OMG these posters who think kids who aren’t masked won’t be allowed to attend school are precious. And I say that as mom to a (Diagnosed) quirky kid who is working on a mask solution he can deal with as we speak. So I’m not against masks. But the FT IN PERSON brigade thinks they can guarantee what they want by being the mask police.

And Japanese kids aren’t superior they just come from a radically different society.

The military can only be expected to put up with so much. When the CIC behaves this way, it’s bad for order all the way down.

Also stuff like this doesn’t help:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/26/us/politics/russia-afghanistan-bounties.html

If this turns into a daily thing at school, school is going to end fast.

Yet somehow kids in Japan are able to wear them with no problem. Guess their kids are just superior.

Fortunately for you there is distance learning! Enjoy!

And home schooling, and private schools that lean to the right. Enjoy!

We should find alternatives like face shields for those with sensory issues. No one should be exempt. It only takes one person to spread the virus. If you don't want school to be interrupted then wear a shield or a mask.

Or go private, home school! simple

Wearing masks is political now. My private school has a FB page for parents. The most vocal person on there insisting that the kids need to go back full-time is also the most adamant that her kids won’t wear masks. I’m honestly hoping the school makes masks mandatory and she just decides to pull them out.

Anonymous wrote:How about this one: teachers are lying about medical conditions so they don’t have to teach. It goes both ways. Like one says she has asthma. I looked up asthma and it’s only moderate to severe asthma that makes one higher risk for covid. This woman definitely doesn’t have moderate or severe asthma. Lol!

1) you don't know what sort of asthma she has.

2) this sounds like you are trying to justify lying about your kid's health because hey... a teacher might have done it.
