Ira Glass was the original vocal fry. It was kind of idiosyncratic to him, so in my opinion he gets a pass. Then other people started doing it and now it's common.

It's a global pandemic. I like seeing my colleagues any way I can. They're all good people who do good work.

There are lots of real, actual problems in the world. I don't notice the petty BS.

I find it extremely distracting. How people don’t understand basic preset skills is beyond me

I’m curious do people know they’re doing this (vocal fry)? I think women use upspeak because they’re trained to lack confidence in a group of men. There are so many men in my office who speak with complete confidence when they have no idea what they’re talking about and incredibly intelligent women who are insecure.

My defense contractor company FORCED over 40 people to go to professional, week long speech/communication training. Cured all the upspeak, all the "sooo...." Luckily we never had any vocal fry - engineers don't vocal fry.

Not PP, but I agree with her. Vocal fry is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I’m going to have to miss out on what they’re saying because I can’t take it- it’s so awful. Upspeak doesn’t bother me unless it’s extremely exaggerated.
