The following items were released September 1:
“Master Bedroom/Bathroom” is now “Primary Bedroom/Bathroom” in Search and Listing Management.
In order to align with the Real Estate Standards Organization’s (RESO) new industry standard, we updated our terminology from “Master Bedroom/Bathroom” to reflect “Primary Bedroom/Bathroom” in both Search and Listing Management. Learn more about this change here.

“(CNN) The Houston Association of Realtors will use "primary" to describe bedrooms and bathrooms on its listing service and replace the word "master."“

The person was my Realtor and has been my friend for ages before that. I remember when she told me about the switch years ago when we were talking about her work. It's not too hard to make the switch. This was way before BLM.
I’m an agent and have used “owner’s suite” for years - not because of a slavery connotation, but because it’s sexist. It feels stupid to show a house to a single woman or a female couple and talk about the master bedroom.
NP. Thanks to the Realtor for chiming in. I have also noticed “his” and “hers” closets are now just “walk in closet”.

In light of the racial strife and related unrest, I humbly request that you do your part to help the nation heal, and to help further the anti-racism movement.
When you list a property, please refrain from using the terms "master bedroom" or "master bathroom" going forward ( for obvious reasons)
Alternative terms you could use in prooerty descriptions could be "primary bedroom" or "main bathroom"
Just a small suggestion that coild.go a long way at healing divisions. Remember to be kind.

I would live to hear the tortured thought process that came up with that.
At end of civil war newly freed slaves were now required to get minimum wage. The railroads hired a lot of black porters and baggage handlers and got permission to pay less than minimum wage to the largely black workers claiming tips by customers who were largely white made up for it.
The whole concept of not paying a fair wage and “making” up for it in tips and commissions paid by customers has racist roots.

Please know that when you focus on things like this, it can actually be counterproductive and make you seem unserious. If you feel offended when you hear the term "master bedroom," how about channeling that energy toward discussions of substantive policy change like abolishing qualified immunity for police officers?
