I know 3 young people who got ulcerative colitis from Accutane. Definitely take probiotics with it and if you quit it take massive amounts of probiotics.

Acne is a minor inconvenience compared to ulcerative colitis.

I never had all over break outs but started getting painful cystic acne at 12-13. Derm put me on Accutane at 15, 18 & 23. Acne went away but would come back. My derm now (started seeing at 44) was horrified that I was given accutane 3 times. I’m kind of horrified now too. I had a lot of trouble getting pregnant & sometimes wonder if this had anything to do with it.
Around 41-42, I started getting a lot of Acne on my chin, jawline. Derm said that this is hormonal & she sees it all the time in women in their early 40’s. She put me on Spirnolactone and it has cleared up but I have had to increase my dosage over the years. I’m now taking 150mg daily. I would recommend trying it.

Not laser it grows back stronger and have to keep doing it and in my case triggered more growth, but electrolysis! Agree best long term option!

Nothing has ever worked for me. Not spiro, not cutting dairy or gluten, none of the topicals, not hormonal birth control, not going with a basic routine, etc. Nothing in the past 4 pages has worked 100%. My mother is rounding the corner on 70 and still gets some cysts and my father gets facials at 72 for clogged pores. I think I am f*cked. What has worked to about 75% is tretinoin every other night, alternating with AHA/BHA wipes and quarterly peels at the dermatologist with weekly home peels. There are some studies that this is a form of "super acne" where it is highly resistant to treatment and should qualify you for Accutane. However, previous guidance for Accutane was to prescribe only if you have a certain number and severity of scar forming acne. Think total (unkind) "pizza face." But this other form doesn't hit that level, but it is still pretty crap to ALWAYS have those 3-10 zits! Wish I had done the Accutane when things like pregnancy and drinking (not at the same time!) weren't a factor in my teens.

I'll add nothing else worked for me, not Spiro, not Differin, nothing. Did not try accutane. Should have, but cutting dairy did it in the end.

+100 for spiro. Only thing that works for me. I need a high dose of 150mg to see results. My skin went back to being horrendous (chin only - totally hormonal) when I had to go off it to have my kids. Back on it now and it has made a huge difference in six weeks.

Go gluten free, dairy free and sugar free.

You need to give it like 8 - 10 weeks. A 1 or 2 week trial
is no way near long enough.

You mention pregnancy. I always struggled, but my skin was at its worst around each of my kids’ first BD. I started Differin when I weaned my youngest and it took 6mo but my skin cleared up. I used it for a year and quit. 2 years later and my skin has stayed clear. I’m also in my early 40s so maybe I just finally grew out of it.

I was allergic to fragrance. I am often allergic to some ingredients in brands like Neutrogena and Doce, which dermatologists will give away free samples. I would go the dermatologist and they're trying to sell anti-aging products with frankincense and pumpkin and who knows what else. Sometimes all natural, vegan, hopping bunny products are horrible for me, too.

Retin A works. Start out once or twice a week and work your way up.

I also use Clinique. I exfoliate. Clearing the dead skin cells helped to unclog my pores.
