Are you sure you remembered what you read? It was the woman who washed Jesus's feet -- with her tears and hair. It's not explicitly stated she was a harlot, either, just that she was a sinner, though the implication seems to be something of the sort.
This is in Luke 7:36-50.
This isn't really relevant to the thread, but I don't like to see the Bible misquoted or misrepresented.

Read the DailyMail link above. It was organized by a church and the officers freely participated. My guess is that they are all devout Christians.
I'm not religious but I recognize the symbolism. The pope did this very thing recently so apparently it's something special for Catholics. If they did this as part of a church event and did it voluntarily, who cares?
And let's not forget that many women of all races have their feet washed regularly by Asian women (at least in the DC metro area) as part of a pedicure. Even though it's a service we pay for, it still always feels a bit awkward to me.

My mom would do this. She is a super conservative, catholic. The funny thing is--she is about as crazy as super liberals and I figure they could find common cause and get along, She would LOVE to wash black feet. She volunteers to wash any color feet in church any time it comes up. She also loves gospel music and took us to black churches to hear the good stuff as kids. Not all conservatives are evil racists. They may disagree with some liberal and democratic policy. But they will kneel and wash black feet. Just sayin' You might be surprised who your anti-racist allies really are. Perhaps reconsider the scene.

Exactly. How about everyone just talk to everyone like they are actual human beings? Six million of my people died and I had no problem having a German exchange student in my home a couple years ago. Hell, I AM 1/2 German! He did nothing. If his grandparents or great grandparents did? Still not his fault.

You realize this was a church-led event, right? These are Christians. No one was forced to participate. Anyone who has spent a significant amount of time in a church would recognize this and understand the biblical connection, even if it’s not a part of their specific church’s acts of worship.
If people are “inflamed” then they literally have zero interest in the Christian religion.

Jesus told his followers to wash EACH OTHERS’ feet because they are brothers in Christ. Read the Bible verse above.
For the past 400 years, it’s been a one-way relationship: black have “washed” the “feet” of whites (it’s a metaphor...duh). What you see in the photo is an act of brotherhood, signaling mutual respect and the beginning of a new two-way relationship between blacks and whites. Again, it’s a metaphor. And it won’t be implemented perfectly.
Of course, with people like you anything short of perfection is just an excuse to continue doing the wrong thing. It’s easier to rant about “virtue signaling” than it is to live a godly life.
lolno. this is a ridiculous gesture by people who aren't going to do anything to solve race issues (apart from additional display of ridiculous gestures). additionally, and granted i am no christianity scholar, your interpretation isn't the only one available. i think plenty of people look at this and see it as jesus (ie, the white people) washing his disciples' (ie, the black people) feet. the fact that this bizarre display of behavior can reasonably be interpreted in the manner i describe and yet they still did it is rather interesting.
