Will you pronounce Gianna the traditional way or do you have some other pronounciation in mind?
The traditional way.
Definitely Gianna then. Jiana will be pronounced “Gee-Ahn-Ah” three syllables instead of “Gian-na” (two syllables).
What? They’re both pronounced the same—Jee-Ah-Nuh. But Jiana just looks janky compared to Gianna.

I like the original spelling Gianna, but he likes Jiana. I told him spelling it with a J will doom her to life of her name constantly being mispronounced, lol. Which do you think sounds better? The middle name is Alexandra if that helps.

Actually she’s being named after his mother that passed right before Christmas who’s name was Joanna.
No, the baby is not being named after her grandmother. If that were the case, then you would be naming her “Joanna.”

Huh??? For me, the traditional pronunciation of Gianna is gee-AH-nuh. And if I saw Jiana I would actually think it's a weird Spanish name and pronounce it he-AH-nuh, but just realized it could rhyme with Diana.
Gianna is an Italian name, pronounced more like two syllables instead of three.
Sorry, In the US, she’s going to get gee-AH-na.
Regardless, it’s beautiful pronounced both ways, OP. And you win with the spelling. Jiana is silly.
+1
Love the name! But here it’s Gee-ah-na.

This is a polite way of saying that most Americans mispronounce Gianna. Same with problem with Giovanni.
Are you Italian? I mean really born and at least partly raised in Italy? If not then, please shut it. If so, I beg your pardon and apologize profusely for all of the unenlightened Americans you must endure. It must be awful.
