Maybe I have missed it, but not much discussion of Black Male/White female marriages here?

I am aware of 3 of these among my friends, and each one ended in divorce or separation.

I'm in an interracial marriage and we are still going strong. ALL of the marriages of husbands family friends that married within the same race are divorced. Which is funny because they all tut tutted at us when we married because he didn't marry within his race, apparently we were doomed. Meh what can I say. Race doesn't mean much when it comes to marriage.

Asian American here. I know several divorced interracial couples. I don’t know if it is more or less than same race because there are less mixed race couples.

I can think of at least 5 Asian and white couples that are divorced. My best friend is Asian and twice divorced to white men. Marriage is difficult. Adding in cultural and family differences would only make it more difficult.

That is interesting. I have several friends in white man-black woman relationships.

The research shows higher divorce rates than white couples but it’s a mixed bag.

Uh, don't most people get married within these parameters?

You think most people's ages at marriage are 19 or younger or 46 and older? Reread what PP said. She said divorce rates are highest for women who are under 20 or over 45 when they marry.

PP here, and yep, I mean what I said, most people don't marry under 19 or over 46. They just don't. And yet still, there are tons of divorces.

Researchers look at rates, not numbers. Divorce rates are higher in those groups even if the number of marriages in those specific categories is lower.

NP. Black and Asian woman married to white man for 14 years. We both have Masters degrees, also. But, to echo PPs, we have worked on our communication since before we married, even going to a couples therapist to work on our communication skills. And we have had ongoing discussions about race and privilege since we dated. That has helped with issues that have come up. Maybe IR couples have to work harder on communication and empathy despite differences, and that helps the marriages over all? But still don't know why BW and WM in particular (but I'll take it).

Another factor could be that in order for people to decide to get into a serious relationship and marry across race they might have to really especially like each other a whole lot to justify enduring the difficulties of interracial coupling (resistance from parents and friends etc)?

Anecdotally, I'm a lilywhite Eastern European married to a dark Arab. I fully expect us to die married. That's not because of anything special but because there is no divorce in our respective families and the cultural expectations on both sides are to stay married.
