It's not against the law.
YES IT IS.

OP was driving speed limit. The law is for those driving TOO SLOW, meaning under the speed limit.
Anonymous wrote:OP is right. You can't have arbitrary speed limits. If 50 mph is too slow, then the gov't needs to change the limit, not punish citizens for obeying it.

Anonymous wrote:OP again, 22:40...I only questioned him because he said I was driving too slow in the left lane, but I was driving the posted speed limit of 50mph. If the argument is that left lane drivers can drive at a higher rate of speed to keep up with the flow of traffic, then who decides how fast is too fast? I got a speeding ticket in DC last year for driving 40 mph in a 25mph
zone, but I had no idea the posted speed limit was 25mph because the sign was completely obstructed. When I went before the hearing officer to challenge the ticket, she said that
the default speed limit everywhere in DC was 25 mph, unless otherwise posted. With that information in mind, I didn't think I'd ever be penalized for driving the posted speed limit. Had I been driving 60 mph in the left lane on that same stretch of road, a different, less hurried officer may have very well pulled me over for speeding.

She broke the law by riding unnecessarily in the passing/left lane.
This. I’m surprised so many people on this thread don’t know this law. The left lane is for passing only.
I will bet that every single poster who didn’t know this is from Virginia.![]()
