Similar situation. And that way I’ll have enough money for a nanny if his daycare never reopens (possible, it’s a nonprofit and they are already broke).

I have a 3 year old and a 6 year old. I have a rising K and am struggling with this as well.
I also have a rising K. She will only go back to camp/school, if her preschool opens for summer camp, to decrease the number of transitions. If they close, she will not go to camp this summer. We have a nanny in mind to help with summer, but I need to make a decision by the end of this month.

For those of you with rising kindergartners, will you send your kid back to daycare if it's open in the summer?
I think if our center is open in early July, I would do it, but much beyond that and I'm worried that it's too much transitioning in too short of a time.

Not strange at all. People who were furloughed a laid off are getting unemployment. And some aren’t willing to put their or themselves and their families at higher risk of infection, particularly if they have underlying health conditions. -NP

Mine will go when physical school reopens, but I’m a teacher. I would definitively send my child over the summer if I needed to for work or mental health reasons. Statistically, young kids are unaffected by this and DH and I are super healthy with no risk factors. I might think differently if our situation was different.

For me, it’s a date far enough in advance that we will have time to see #s go up or down. And it’s the first of the month. We have to decide on a monthly basis at our center when we return (they’re still open but we are only paying a monthly retainer).

A vaccine will come next year if we are lucky. There is no guarantee of a vaccine that quickly, or even at all.

Then you have bad information. Promising treatments often don’t work and sometimes a shot in the dark turns out to be effective. Until there’s a vaccine, we don’t know how long the research phase will last.

That said, I’m watching numbers. I’m hoping for July 1, but seeing what happens over next couple weeks now that folks in VA seem to be really letting up / possible reopening beginning.
