Not expecting anything at all. Whatever the kids bring home from school is what I get- which is totally fine. Then we drive out to the beach. We may still do that if the weather is nice and I'll pack a picnic.

My DD and DS are still young, 3 and 5 and my DH is pretty amazing with them. So, last year after church together he took the kids to a playground and I went for a facial. When I got home we worked in the garden with the kids and just hung out. As a family we went to an Irish Pub for a very early supper, like 4. Kids had made sweet Mother's day presents at preschool and my DH gave me flowers. Simple and nice. With the exception of the facial and actually "going" to church, I am hoping for more of the same this year. Maybe a bottle of wine instead of flowers...this year is rough!

I'm sure moms will still find a way to complain on the Relationship forum about how their DH didn't get them flowers or take them out to dinner.

BTW...we are not on Quarantine. That's different from stay at home orders.

We will order takeout somewhere, my choice.

Not OP, but I literally CAN'T try being a refugee in Italy or Spain. It's impossible. So why shouldn't I enjoy a little me time on Mother's Day?

You can just don't complain about being depressed about the day this year, lots to be depressed about but not this! Sad for all the mothers who lost their lives or who are working daily to save others while putting their own family at risk.

PP. I agree with you on that point. I wouldn't say Mother's Day is depressing to me this year even if I can't do any of the things I'd normally do. I do think of the mothers who aren't at home, like our neighbor who is currently on the USNS Comfort. So I think OP is playing her tiny violin far too loudly, but I also think you're a little too far on the other end of the spectrum. It's ok for people to be upset that things are different this year. Depressing is a bit much for me, but I don't think people need to say they aren't allowed to be sad just because they don't have it worse.

Group FaceTime with my parents, and my sister and her kid, and we’ll chat and drink wine. Homemade cards from my kids. Good enough for me!

this is a super weird reason to hate mothers day.

This. And the bolded sections do not mean the moms are doing nothing. You have an inflated sense of your worth and warped sense of the worth of others.
