Neither set of grandparents sent presents (my mom was apologetic and said she didn't want to go shopping- I told her to not worry about it for one second. MIL is 78 and I would never expect her to shop right now). He got presents from us and siblings and from our nanny. No 4 year old is going to miss a present from his or her grandparents unless the parents make a big deal out of it. We video chatted with everyone and had a great day. DH's birthday is next week, and we'll do the same for him. NBD, just glad we're all healthy!
You're an awesome mom, with some very sage advice for the OP... listen to this one, OP.
I have a feeling you're right on the money about the bolded too.
That kid had NO idea whether her only living grandparents sent her a gift or not, because
kids that age live in the here and now.
I guarantee her daughter wasn't sitting on the floor burping her new Baby Alive doll that she just got and started meandering...
"Uh, wait a minute... hold the phone and stop everything right now! I was sitting here singing happy birthday to myself for the hundredth time today, burping little Sally (she has my eyes, doesn't she, mother?) and I started checking off that mental checklist that we 4 year olds typically like to keep updated, of exactly WHO should be showering me with adoration and birthday presentations on my special day and I do wonder, mother... why, oh WHY, have I not recieved my yearly benefactio endowment from Grand-mamma & Pa-Pa yet? Don't they love me? Nothing says love like an expensive endowment... a benefaction of boon, a goliath of gifts... you know this, mother. Then to add insult to injury all I get is some crappy card??
Find. Out. Mother... find out why!
Don't care how, I want it now... don't care how, I want it nooooooooooow"
Nope, that 4 year old was probably thrilled with the presents she got from her mom and dad and that's that, nothing more needs to be said.
Happy belated to your 4 year old son, PP and happy soon to be birthday to your husband!
