Carey was never her ex-husband.

I hope the rest of thier songs are better.

Sure they do..

Country music is built on songs about cheaters, wife beaters, and abusers. This Carrie Underwood song is a classic and she's singing about destroying his car while he's out on a date with someone else...

Usually it is generic and you don't immediately know the exact person they are singing about. It is also usually about a boyfriend / girlfriend from the past and often it isn't clear which one. In this case it is about a specific person who she was married to for 17 years and still needs to co-parent minor children with.

This is an I hate my ex husband and the father of my children and I want the world to know what a dirtbag I think he is. Different from I had an ex once who cheated so I slashed his tires.

This is why the song IS great, because it's not generic. All these other songs you're talking about i.e. Carrie Underwood etc aren't even written by the singer, usually.

The Dixie Chicks are 100% authentic and true to themselves. We need more of this, not less.

You think men and women should start writing and putting out hate tracks about their specific ex-wife / ex-husband who is the co-parent of their minor children? Air all their dirty laundry for the world in front of their kids? I think it is petty and immature. A buy wnats the world to know what b-tch his ex wife is? I really, relay don't think this is a genre of music we need at all. I love the DC's music for the most part but sometimes people are too close to a situation to see that venting about it too broadly is not a good idea.

Love this song. I like that someone at thread mentioned Pink, it actually reminds me of some of her best stuff.

She had her kids in 2001 and 2004 in the middle of two albums and three tours. He barely worked those years.

Someone had to be with the kids and it makes sense that it was him. He likely went on tour with her. Tours are not very child friendly. Lots of rehearsals, sound checks, stage orientation, late loud shows and late mornings.

She wasn't being the primary parent while touring.

He worked a lot in the 90s and then picked up a lot more work again from 2011ish on. There is a decade where he didn't do much. I could be wrong that he went on the tours with her but it seems quite possible.

I'm not sure you're making the point you think you are. She hasn't toured since her kids were 2 and 5, over 13 years ago. How does that make him the primary parent for anything other than the preschool stretch?

Yup they toured in 2009 and in 2019 but nothing in between.

They did the Long Time Gone mini tour in 2013 and the DCX MMXVI-VII World Tour in 2016-2017. I don't think they toured in 2009. I think you were looking at the wrong band.

+1.

Ignoring all the stuff about it being about Adrian Pasdar, spousal support, who's worth what, the song is just so disappointing. And I say this as a big Dixie Chicks fan.

Get your ears checked. This is classic DC. Or are you more of a "Cowboy Take Me Away" kinda girl?

Why? Because he asked for support? If he'd been a woman and they'd been married 17 years (like they were), ya'll would be saying he's owed that and more.

Not if he'd been a woman that signed a prenup saying otherwise. It's not like he was at home managing the house and children behind the scenes. He had his own career, she was just better at hers.

Women try to get around prenups ALL the time. He just used the same tactic. You support outrageous child support and maintainence ence levels for one type of spouse - you have to do it for both.

Child support is one thing--the kids should have the same lifestyle they had before. But he wanted $45k extra in spousal support, which he did not get because he signed a valid prenup. I dont support "outrageous" maintenance levels for anybody in a divorce.

Sounds like he did exactly what you said a SAHM does. He raised the children, saw them off to school, made sure their meals were made, and put them to bed while Natalie was making music, touring, and fighting the establishment.

At the time, he claimed he sacrificed his professional career to focus on the former couple's children while Maines toured and made music.

At one point, the kids came on tour with them. And their son played at some of the DCX shows. He just sounds like a jerk. He wasn't manipulated into a prenup. They're both professional entertainers with potential to make big bucks. He made an agreement with full capacity to understand it, and then went back on what he agreed to. Destroys his credibility.

The same can be said of a woman with a law degree or a nurse or a pet washer who decided to get married, had kids, and 'suddenly' doesn't want to work for 5-10 years. She went back on her agreement to work and provide an income for herself -- so why should she then benefit from the largesse of the working spouse in a divorce?

If that were in a legally enforceable agreement, you may be right. But, it usually is not. So there is no "agreement."

This song is a crazy slam dunk hit, and I say that as someone who hates country music. I was shocked how good it is.
