I see a decidedly liberal tilt to these choices. Like PP said, not a single Colin Powell or Boyd Rutherford in the bunch.
Seriously? You object to Trevor Noah?
There is nothing about Trevor Noah I would want my child to copy, not one thing. Not np, but yes, he is objectionable.

I’m pretty sure Noah called Trump’s son ‘A&&hole Jr’ on his show.
Surely if some reporter had said anything similar about Obama’s girls, you would have been disgusted? I would be. Kids should be off limits.

He never called Baron a name. You made that up.

Not exactly inspiring to most Americans.
There are tons of inspirational black Americans, but Kaepernick is not one of them.
I have to agree.
I'm sick of people idolizing sports figures and actors. Plus, Kaepernick was sort of a has been at one point before he tried to reinvent himself. I think he's an opportunist.
Why not Ta-Nehisi Coates?
or Mary Jackson? She's older but she paved the way for AA females in scientific fields.
What about Colin Powell? too Republican???
Tarana Burke? the real face behind #metoo
Stacey Abrams?
I did some research on lesser known figures - Arlan Hamilton. Look her up. impressive
If OP is talking about my school, which I think she is, the entire school is decorated right now with Black heroes from the 18th through 21st centuries and over 60 countries. There’s a huge hidden figures collage that just went up. The kids are being exposed to very varied political viewpoints. I saw a poster profiling Ben Carson next to one for Booker T. Washington.

Even kids who are 42 years old?

How many Colin Powells would you want? There only is one Colin Powell.
And all that Boyd Rutherford has done is be the third black lieutenant governor of Maryland in a row. If anybody, it should be Michael Steele, who was the first African-American elected to statewide office in Maryland.
Not that either of them has been enthusiastic about the Republican Party lately.
Why not acknowledge AAs who are Republican? In this age of "intersectionality," it's appropriate, no?
1) That's not what intersectionality means. At all. Read Kimberle Crenshaw.
2) Relatively few Black Americans are Republicans. 5-10%. I have seen Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice featured on MCPS Black History Month posters and displays. Out of 10-40 people, that's about right.
3) Are you demanding special treatment for Republicans? Sounds like you are.
