I SAH, but summer is mostly planned. Vacation is with extended family to the same location yearly. Dates get picked when we see them at Christmas. The only camp they do is VBS (which I help teach)— that date is set. Other than that, there’s swim team (too early to register), and we may drive to see family, but I can plan that later. Family might visit us and has given us tentative dates for that. So there isn’t that much for me to plan, unlike if I needed childcare.

Op here. One of DS’s friends was asking about putting our kids together in camp. A week passed and she already booked the entire summer.

Maybe because those camps were going to fill up? We do the summer fun center in Moco and it filled up in under 10 minutes this year because it's so affordable. And it lasts for 6 weeks.

+1...also, OP is a SAHM, does it even matter if she can't get her snowflakes into camp every week?

+1

Why do you (OP) need camps planned? I’m a SAHM. Me and my little snowflakes (ha) will be at the pool, beach, museums, plus long lazy boring days of sleeping in, house projects, having friends over, bike riding, watching movies, tending to our veggie garden, etc.

My kids are older now so I need to make fewer plans. The older one will work 15-20 hours/week and the younger one will have swim team until mid-July or so. Late July I'll take the kids to spend a few days with my parents. As far as vacations, we're actually splitting up this year for a variety of reasons so DH and #1 will be gone for a week right after school gets out, and #2 and I take our turn in mid-August.

When they were younger, I usually did camp about every other week through the summer and had things booked by late Jan - early Feb to 1) ensure we got spots, and 2) get it off my plate ASAP after registration opened.

I SAH with my kids who will turn 5 and 2 this summer. The 5 year old will do a few weeks of half day camps at our church, and might do a VBS at another church depending if his friends are doing it. Our vacation is in May this year and is all planned, so nothing else to do there. Otherwise we’re taking it easy.

I was shocked at the price of the camps that I found. Even the half day parks camps/activities were much more expensive than half day preschool. And I’ve been around some camps if we happen to be using the playground/pool/etc at the same time, and they are not particularly well-run.

So yeah, all done, but not necessarily because I’m super-organized. Before she started doing GS camps, it all tended to happen later in the spring.

Same here -- it's GS camp that drives my need to plan out our summer right after Christmas.

Vacation is an annual even with family that happens every year in the same location and gets booked when we're all together for Thanksgiving (or we lose our preferred AirBnB). Camp booked last week, on the day we became eligible to register. Our preferred camp typically fills two hours after they open for reservations.

We missed all these deadlines last year. Summer at home with a bored toddler and new baby was miserable. Not about to make that mistake again.

Op here. I’m a relatively new SAHM. Last year, I had these ideas of a lazy summer where we would go to the pool and just hang out for most of the summer. It was a bit of a disaster with a napping toddler. Older kids would fight when I was putting toddler down to nap. I remember I scrambled for last minute camps to get at least one kid out of the house at a time.

I think I have 4 weeks planned. Only 6 more to go. I’m on the fence of booking a big European vacation. I have one beach weekend booked so far. 2 of my good friends turn 40 this summer. I’m on hold to see what they want to do. I feel like trying to find a week for 5-6 moms to get away without kids in the summer will be difficult.

Haven't done anything yet. I'm usually on top of things, but this year is different. My father is very, very sick. My parents live in a different country, so my life is on hold right now, pending what happens with him. If he has surgery, chances are 50-50. If he doesn't, he might live a life of pain. He had been doing so well, they were planning to spend the summer here, and now that's all down the toilet.

I have tentative plans, beyond that. We were going to take a huge family trip to celebrate my parents' 50th anniversary, my cousin's 50th birthday, and my SIL's 40th. If we do it, it will be without my parents. DD's camps this year cover about a month, but are auditions/admissions based, and we won't know until mid/late March. I'll probably sign her up for a camp or two she really wants to do, and I know won't fill up that quickly.

Yeah, they fill up fast. The good ones, anyway. We had our summer planned, camps registered for, flights booked, houses rented, by the end of January.

OP here. I just tried to register for 3 camps and they are all full! I just put my kids on wait lists for 2 camps. I wanted to book travel first but I guess I will book camps first.

Our inlaws vacation with us 1 week each summer. I ask them to pick their week by Christmas each year. I have camps to plan. My SIL has a custody schedule to coordinate for her step kids. My other SIL needs to request time off work far in advance. I wish they would plan in October, but I’ll take December. Before any of us had kids they wouldn’t a July trip until May.

All of my planning was done about 12 hour after Arlington finally voted on the school calendar for fall on Feb 6th.
